At Ysgol Cambrian, learning begins with the child. As a new 3–19 ALN school in Rhondda Cynon Taf, we are building a curriculum that is ambitious, nurturing and personalised. Our approach celebrates each learner’s strengths, supports their communication, and creates meaningful opportunities for progress.
Our curriculum is rooted in the Curriculum for Wales and enriched through specialist ALN practice, Total Communication and a strong focus on wellbeing, relationships and belonging. Every child and young person is entitled to experience success, connection and purpose, and our curriculum is designed to make that possible.
We start with each learner’s interests, motivations, sensory profile and communication style. Learning pathways are flexible and responsive, ensuring every child can access meaningful progress.
Communication underpins everything we do. We use a blend of approaches including Makaton, visuals, AAC, gesture, objects of reference and personalised systems. Communication is not a subject; it is the foundation of learning, relationships and independence.
Our curriculum removes barriers and opens doors. Through structured environments, sensory‑aware teaching and specialist support, learners are empowered to take part, take risks and take pride in their achievements.
Our CAMBRIAN values shape our culture and guide our decisions. They help our learners feel safe, connected and ready to explore the world around them.
