Curriculum for Wales

At Ysgol Cambrian, our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, develop confidence and support every pupil to thrive. We follow the national Curriculum for Wales, ensuring that all pupils experience a broad, balanced and engaging education that prepares them for life.

Our Vision

We believe every child should Believe, Belong and Become. Our curriculum reflects this by promoting high expectations, strong relationships and meaningful learning experiences rooted in our community and values.

The Four Purposes

The Curriculum for Wales aims to support all children and young people to become:

  • Ambitious, capable learners
  • Enterprising, creative contributors
  • Ethical, informed citizens
  • Healthy, confident individuals

These four purposes underpin everything we do at Ysgol Cambrian.

Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs)

Learning is organised into six Areas of Learning and Experience:

  • Expressive Arts
  • Health and Well-being
  • Humanities
  • Languages, Literacy and Communication
  • Mathematics and Numeracy
  • Science and Technology

Our teaching teams plan rich, connected learning opportunities across these areas to help pupils make sense of the world and develop essential skills.

What This Means for Our Pupils

Our curriculum:

  • Builds on pupils’ interests and experiences
  • Supports the development of literacy, numeracy and digital competence across all learning
  • Encourages creativity, problem-solving and independence
  • Promotes wellbeing, inclusion and a strong sense of belonging
  • Reflects our local community, culture and environment

Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

As an ALN specialist setting, we ensure that every pupil receives personalised support. Our curriculum is flexible and responsive, enabling all pupils to progress at a pace and pathway that is right for them.

Working With Families

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. We will continue to share curriculum information, learning experiences and ways you can support your child at home.
