Relationships, Values and Ethical Education

Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE)

At Ysgol Cambrian, Relationships and Sexuality Education is an important part of our curriculum and supports pupils to develop healthy, respectful relationships and a positive sense of self. RSE is taught across the school in a way that is developmentally appropriate, inclusive and sensitive to the needs of all pupils.

RSE is part of the Curriculum for Wales and is designed to help pupils:

  • Understand themselves, their feelings and their bodies
  • Build positive, safe and respectful relationships
  • Develop confidence, empathy and communication skills
  • Learn how to keep themselves safe

Our school nurse also contributes to aspects of RSE where appropriate. All teaching is delivered within a supportive, values‑based framework that reflects the ethos of Ysgol Cambrian.

For pupils with Additional Learning Needs, RSE is adapted to ensure it is accessible, meaningful and aligned with individual developmental stages.

Parents and carers are welcome to contact the school if they would like to discuss how RSE is taught or how we can support their child.

Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE)

Religion, Values and Ethics is taught to all pupils at Ysgol Cambrian in line with the Curriculum for Wales and the locally agreed syllabus. RVE helps pupils explore beliefs, values, traditions and worldviews in a way that promotes respect, understanding and reflection.

RVE at Ysgol Cambrian:

  • Encourages pupils to explore their own values and those of others
  • Promotes tolerance, empathy and ethical thinking
  • Helps pupils understand a range of religious and non‑religious worldviews
  • Supports spiritual, moral, social and cultural development

RVE is delivered through classroom learning, assemblies and wider school experiences. Collective reflection and opportunities for quiet thought are built into the school day. We also acknowledge and explore a range of religious and cultural celebrations throughout the year, helping pupils develop awareness of the diverse world around them.
