Admissions

Admissions to Ysgol Cambrian are agreed through a collaborative process between the school, the Local Authority and parents or carers. We want every family to feel informed, supported and reassured throughout this journey.

How Admissions Work

Before a place is allocated, a series of observations, meetings and assessments will take place. These may involve:

  • parents and carers
  • the child’s current school or playgroup
  • the educational psychologist
  • the child’s paediatrician or neurodevelopmental team
  • relevant Local Authority professionals
  • other agencies already supporting the child

This process helps everyone build a clear understanding of the child’s needs and ensures that Ysgol Cambrian is the right setting for them.

Supporting Families Through the Process

We recognise that admissions and assessments can feel like an anxious time for both parents and children. We warmly encourage families to visit the school during this period to meet staff, see classes in action and experience our nurturing, inclusive environment. These visits help families feel confident and informed before any decisions are made.

Local Authority Decision‑Making

All placement decisions are made by the Local Authority Inclusion Panel. If Ysgol Cambrian is recommended, the Education Authority will contact parents to confirm when a place is available. An admission date will then be agreed with the Head of School.

What Happens Once a Place Is Offered

When a place is confirmed, parents or carers formally accept the placement with the Local Authority. Following this, an admissions meeting will be arranged with a member of the Senior Leadership Team or Extended Leadership Team.

During this meeting, we will:

  • gather detailed information about the child, including health, sensory and communication needs
  • review their current IDP and discuss how we will support their targets
  • develop or update an Individual Health Care Plan (IHP)
  • collect information about allergies, intolerances or modified diets
  • ensure safe plans are in place for pupils who are tube‑fed or require specialist feeding support
  • discuss transition arrangements to help the child settle confidently into school

This process ensures we have a complete picture of the child’s needs so we can prepare the right support, environment and resources from day one.

Leadership

Admissions are overseen by:
Nicola Clark – Head of School
Aron Bradley – Executive Headteacher

We work closely with families and the Local Authority to ensure every transition into Ysgol Cambrian is smooth, positive and centred around the needs of the child.
